DEMOLISHING THE STATUS QUO

WHAT OUR ATHENIANS ARE SAYING

I love FABcamp because it is giving me a chance to explore more about STEM. As a high schooler, I am still considering my different career paths, and because STEM has always been one of the top choices for me, this is a great opportunity for enrichment and learning from those experienced in the field. I get to collaborate with people from many different places and be creative working on the contests. Another aspect of the camp is that this year, it is online. The time off from school this year had been uncertain as to whether or not my summer plans could continue, and many things were canceled. However, when I heard about the Athena Racing FABcamp, I was thrilled to see that there is an opportunity to learn more about STEM as well as take part in building the drifting trike all from online. This way I am still able to get involved in a group project and learn and be creative from my home.

“I like this program for my daughter because this camp crushes the stereotype that only men can work on cars and I think that it is so cool that there is an all-female high school racing team. It gives my daughter so many new career options in the STEM field and helps her feel more confident in pursuing those options.”

We were very excited to learn about Athena racing and how young girls are encouraged here to believe in themselves and achieve something that they never thought they could or they feared to try. We are hopeful that our daughter will build confidence, strength, strategy and skill that help her find a hero in herself and be encouraged to become a future leader.

I love FABcamp because I get to educate myself on mechanics and other STEM topics that I normally would not learn about in school.  I also enjoy being able to learn while still having fun, making the camp much more interesting for me.

I think it is important to learn about STEM because it is important because it pervades every part of our lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Engineering is the basic designs of roads and bridges, but also tackles the challenges of changing global weather and environmentally-friendly changes to our home. Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives. By having students learn about STEM related topics, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM field.

Why I love FAB: because it is an exciting camp promoting girls and their abilities to develop and  grow in more male-dominated fields. FAB is not only inspiring but it gives girls the opportunity to choose different career paths that pursue their own personal interests. FAB is fabulous!!

~Megan D.

“Megan is very capable and creative of pursuing projects. This opportunity is fabulous (pun intended) especially during these hard times. This is perfect because it not only allows her to use this camp to learn more about the STEM field and more career paths as she heads toward college, but it keeps her busy and interested daily!”

I LOVE FABcamp because it is so much FUN! We got to meet many new people! I learned so much in just the first week and I am looking forward to what the future weeks will bring me! Thank you to all the hard workers that are making this program available to us girls!

I think it is important for me to attend this camp and learn more about mechanical engineering because it’s a skill that is underestimated.  The future of transportation is at our fingertips with this camp.

~ Haley E.

Haley loves to tackle new challenges and immerses herself in technical projects. Athena Racing offers unique opportunities to expand Haley’s mechanical engineering experience. I think she will be a valuable asset to the team.

“I love FABcamp because I learn the inner workings of a car, get to see some really cool cars, and have some amazing racers talk to us about their experiences.

When I grow up I want to be an engineer, so I can create innovations and build things like cars. This is important to learn about because many of us don’t care how and why a car works, and don’t know of the parts that make up a car, such as a chassis or powertrain.”

~Trisha

“I’m very happy she has something to look forward to and keep her busy in quarantine, and especially a summer camp Trisha loves so much!”

When I grow up I want to be a computer science engineer. I think it is important to learn about engineering because it applies to so many aspects of our lives. Also, these days, there are so many jobs related to engineering and it helps to get interested and start learning about it when you are younger.

We are very excited to have Tanisi enrolled in FABcamp, since it gives her exposure to technology, particularly automobiles which is used in our daily lives and this will help her explore further in the area of Science, Technology and Engineering! A big thanks to the FAB team for providing this wonderful opportunity!
