#STEAM ROLE MODEL SHOWING YOU HOW MUCH FUN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING + MATH ARE IN THE REAL WORLD

MACKENZIE LAWSON

MATERIALS & PROCESS ENGINEER, L3 HARRIS

Mackenzie always had a curiosity and passion for science and math. In fact, her favorite subjects throughout middle and high school were always math courses, closely followed by the sciences. When it came time for college, she wasn’t sure what I wanted to study, but engineering seemed like the logical move. After touring the University of Kentucky, she fell in love with the school and materials engineering. After graduating college in 2021, she moved to Huntsville, AL to work as a Materials & Process Engineer for Aerojet Rocketdyne in their non-metallics group. Her main focus is resins, rubbers, and composite materials. Her day-to-day includes developing and performing material tests, helping out with investigations, production support, and so much more as materials are the building blocks of everything that is made.
