MONTHLY MEETINGS

MEMBERS MONTHLY

FIRST SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH

10-11 a.m PST

This is our one day of the month to gather, learn and laugh as a like-minded group of STEM-loving, transportation-designing, engineering-thinking, robot-creating, business-building girls!

Each month we focus on an Athenian character trait and discuss ways to practice and share that trait in our everyday occurrences. We also have a lot of squeals and laughter during our scavenger hunts, escape room, and game times, but hey, we’re serious 90% of the time… gotta let the funshine through!

Members are updated monthly with a plethora of fun activities, reading, discussions, contests and more via a private webpage. They also receive a monthly newsletter, occasional alerts (which means something great is being announced), participate in the group projects, and get points for various achievements.

Not a member yet? You can still join us! Girls in middle school and high school are welcome to register as a guest for our meeting! Come check out what we’re doing and if you want to compete and be more involved, you can. If you just want to hang out and enjoy the comradery, we love having guests!

What are the points on the leaderboard for? Well, we have a surprise in store for our members when we hold our awards ceremony at our WEareSTEM.org conference in November. Even the SAB has no idea what the Directors are planning for them! Those who have worked hard toward the goal will be highlighted during the program and receive prizes.

Register today! Members are given preferential seating and are admitted from the waiting room before guests.

SNAP CIRCUIT SATURDAYS

FIRST SATURDAY OF EVERY MONTH

STARTING IN APRIL

11am – Noon PST

Do you plan to become a STEM-career, transportation-designing, engineering-thinking, robot-creating, business-building leader? Becoming well-versed in electronics will help you secure the position and salary of your dreams.

“In my conversations with employers, the need for Electrical Engineers is mentioned in every conversation. I suggest to all Athenians that they purse an EE degree as a major or minor concentration. Green energy is our future and having knowledge of how to engineer it will make you a valuable asset across many industry sectors.” – Ms. Loxley

We use the Snap Circuit kit that you can purchase from Amazon Smiles (choose Athena Racing as your charity of choice). This hands-on learning will electrify the fun as we build working models of snap circuits to create a Light Tunnel, Two Mirror circuit, Break the Beam and much, much more. We’ll build in 3-D using parts that allow us to build our circuits horizontally, vertically and upside down.

Register today and have your Snap Circuit kit ready! Members are given preferential seating and are admitted from the waiting room before guests.

MENTAL STRATEGY

MONDAYS –  March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

4 – 5 p.m. PST

Life is mental, literally. Your mental state and reactions create the world around you. How do you, as a teenager, prepare and learn to handle everything that you experience?  How do you attract into your life the experiences, support and community that will elevate and help you?

We’re going to combine the teaching of masters with our own real-life experiences. Each week we will study a laboratory setting of our own life, applying design thinking – empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test – to our own circumstances to determine the best paths for improvement. You’ll be given the foundational skills, and it will be up to you to implement it!

Valued at: $750
Cost: FREE!

PHOTOGRAPHY

TUESDAYS – March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

4 – 5 p.m. PST

It’s important to learn photography from both sides of the lens. In this workshop we’ll learn the basics: how to make your subjects more comfortable in front of the camera, how to create photo essays that require you to be in two places at once, and how to develop a professional portfolio. The workshop will culminate with an online gallery viewing of your finished work.

IRL FINANCES

MONDAYS – April 12, 19, 26    May 3, 10, 17

In the Finances Workshop, you will work on real-world projects that will test your financial mind and creativity and make you a master of money management. All students will leave the workshop understanding what it means to be financially healthy and with the skills to make it happen.

LAND, SEA, AIR TRANSPORTATION

June 21 – 25

9 a.m. – Noon PST

Do you want to be one who makes the world move? We’re going to take a look into all of the departments of the transportation industry – on land, sea and air. It doesn’t matter what your strengths are, if you have a love for moving people and things, there is a job for you.

STRENGTHS FINDER

August 28

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST

Research shows that people who know and use their strengths are:

  • more engaged at work
  • more productive in their roles
  • happier and healthier

If you are interested in a Leadership role, knowing your strengths and weakness give you better insight into yourself and how you work with others. Your greatest room for overall personal improvement isn’t where you’re weakest, but rather where you’re strongest.

We want our Athenians to thrive by doing what you naturally do best so that you can maximize your potential. If you are being considered for the Student Advisory Board or would like to be an Officer, this workshop is required.

You will need to complete the full test prior to the workshop. We will have a fun day of working on our talents individually and as a group.

This is a full day of funshine with an extended break in the middle. We will have one morning session, a break to work on individual projects, and return for an afternoon session.

Etiquette training is like a gentle glove with a firm hand: it covers the basics of manners, yet it is also a presence that attracts like-minded friends. We will cover the basics and then dive deep into business etiquette. We’ll also explore cultures and discuss how to best approach a variety of situations.

4 – 5 P.m. PST

Being able to command a crowd – and now, the added pressure and distance of online conferencing – can be a daunting task! But it doesn’t have to be. Learn powerful speaking tools that will boost your confidence, put you at ease, and engage your audience. Whether your audience is a large crowd or one person, knowing how to correctly add all aspects of speaking – vocal variety, enunciation, emotion, facial expressions, hand gestures, body language – will boost your magnetism.

Further develop your critical thinking skills by refining your ability to debate. Researching the pros and cons of a topic and being able to argue both points can expand your worldview. Debating also instills the confidence to stand up for your ideas, perspectives, and truths.

Both public speaking and debate will teach you how to research and better structure your thoughts. Being able to succinctly express yourself in a way that is clear to those around you is a management and leadership skill that will benefit you throughout your career.
